Te Ara Hihiko – Our member mahi
Welcome to Te Ara Hihiko, with ‘Ara’ being path or passage and ‘Hihiko’ meaning energy, to be inspired, lively. Simply, a kaupapa centred around creating pathways and connections, to inspire and energise rangatahi right through to the decision makers within our digital sector of Aotearoa.
Te Ara Hihiko is the name of our member mahi – formally a member working group – to proactively address the following key concerns:
- Mis-conceptions and and lack knowledge of the wide variety of opportunities in the digital industry and in digital roles in the wider business sector
- Lack of awareness around the various accessible study and employment pathways
- Are the hiring processes in our organisations from interview to induction safe and culturally inclusive and appropriate
- Are we providing the right level of support to our Māori and Pasifika staff; and
- Is there fair and equal growth opportunities to continue to thrive once employed
What is the aim of Te Ara Hihiko?
Our working group has held a number of in person hui with TUANZ wider member organisations across 2024. Attendees have been cultural advisors, HR managers, senior operational managers, senior executives and general people leaders who all have a passion for closing the digital divide and equity issue still facing Māori and Pasifika at all stages of their education and employment journey within the digital technology sector.
Our hui have been focussed on challenging the group korero and engrained corporate behaviour, with the aim that our Māori and Pasifika people are encouraged to become more digitally capable – starting at school, enter digital roles, and receive support once they are part of our organisations.
Te Ara Hihiko was established to include a deep dive where we think the challenges start – with our rangatahi, whom we want to give a voice and platform to in this space for our TUANZ members to learn from.
Mā te kimi ka kite, mā te kite ka mōhio, mā te mōhio ka mārama!
Seek and discover, discover and know, know and become enlightened!
Arotahi Spotlight Series
Empowering Māori and Pasifika in Tech: Stories of Capability, Inclusion, and Support
Welcome to the TUANZ Arotahi Spotlight series, a dedicated initiative to support and celebrate the inclusion of Māori and Pasifika in technology related careers.
Arotahi means to focus, concentrate, or zero in on. In this series, we aim to do exactly that as we share the stories, achievements, and efforts of TUANZ member organisations to foster digital skills and opportunities. Each episode will be centred around the kaupapa of promoting and supporting Māori and Pasifika.
We are committed to supporting the digital growth and inclusion of Māori and Pasifika communities. This series will spotlight the inspiring stories of individuals and organisations making significant strides in this area.
We aim to encourage more Māori and Pasifika to enter digital roles and provide additional support once they are part of our TUANZ member organisations.
